Hunting Season - C17

That  feeling you get at the end of every spring is tough to put into words. Yet, in just 17 minutes, C17 captured the anticipation, the actualization, and the antiquation of the summertime with his tape, Hunting Season.

The project got off to a lucky start with “777.” The voicemail in the intro is consistent with what Cam shines at through out the EP - popping sh*t.  C17 maintains the perfect level of confidence, boosting the ego of the listener without crossing the line into arrogance. On every song, the braggadocios lyrics are blended perfectly with the instrumental, making every bar digestible.

“Hold on, they been telling me to pop sh*t” - 777

Every feature on this project is special. Shad Da God has been stamped in Atlanta for over a decade, and he delivered nothing short of his one-of-a-kind flow and cadence on “For a While.” On the same song, Stacc Benji comes through with an energized and memorable verse. Sarah Rose brings a certain charm to “S4S” that it needed. Finally, the legend Sonny Digital takes on the role of the closer and belts out a passionate verse on “S4S,” helping to make that track the standout one on the EP.

“Got a cougar and she buy me everything, like she plugged in with the Medellin” - S4S

The tape ends the same way that summertime usually does: elation, but with a sobered perspective. The calm sonics on the last two tracks bring out more emotion from C17. The outro track is one that you can meditate to, as C17 encourages you with the refrain of “breathe.”

Overall, the tape is an easy listen. Cam is never monotone, and the various flows will draw you in. It is clear from this project that C17 is running with a lot of momentum. Hunting Season is in full effect, just remember to eat what you kill.
