Barnacles - Sahbabii
The warning sign in the corner of the cover art reads “This album may affect you spiritually.” It goes on to prepare you for strong “language, thoughts, and ideas.” It should have prepared you to resist texting your ex. Not the ex that you miss romantically, but the one that had “the neck so long she couldn’t walk through the front door” (Giraffes & Elephants). The overtones of Sahbabii’s latest effort give you intimacy without romanticism. His vocals guide so smoothly over beats that it would be easy to miss the explicit content if you’re not bracing for it. But once you catch on, you’ll realize every other bar you’re hearing another creative way to describe fornication.
“I’ma give her both of these balls, Lamelo and Lonzo” Giraffes & Elephants
“I’ma bend her (Bender) I ain’t talking Futurama” Racist
“I’ma cover them buns like a condiment” Tongue Demon
Even with the sexual overtones, Sahbabii is still able to deliver a multi-dimensional project. Like Gunna, Lil Baby, and many more, Sahbabii undeniably has Young Thug’s influence in his sound. However, he distinguishes himself from the others in three ways. First, for better or worse, his sound is fully polished. Second, this marsupial superstar devotes a theme to each of his albums sticks to it throughout. Third, his wordplay extends beyond the first metaphor that may come to the average rapper’s mind.
“She wasn’t riding right, we went to auto zone” Purple Umbrella
“She got a small top with a big bottom like a trapezoid” Trapezoid
"Drop the top on my coupe, bitch I’m real clumsy” Soulja Slim
Sahbabii’s creativity shines again on this project. This is a 2am highway listen; or an early afternoon when it’s gloomy out. Smoke one and enjoy.
